A rainy afternoon in Portland provided the perfect backdrop for tasting bright, floral samples, particularly highlighting the exceptional offerings from the Fugi Washing Station in Rwanda, showcased by Montreal-based exporter Semilla Coffee. This event marked the beginning of a journey into the world of Baho Coffee, a company founded by Emmanuel Rusatira, who reimagines the Rwandese coffee sector with a focus on hyper-traceability, including demographic traceability exemplified by the Ikizere women’s group. This group, comprising single mothers affected by the 1994 Rwandan genocide, engages in manual depulping to foster solidarity and community, with Baho Coffee ensuring they receive the highest price for their cherries in the country.
