Tim Wendelboe - Caballero Batian Espresso
COF-TW-0001Batian is a cultivar developed at the Coffee Research Station in Ruiru, Kenya, released in 2010 as a rust-resistant alternative to SL28 and SL34. Although it is tolerant to coffee leaf rust, it offers a unique flavour profile that can rival traditional Kenyan coffees. This year’s Batian has pronounced notes of violets and florals, with tart berry undertones and a sweet milk chocolate finish. The processing involves handpicking ripe cherries, followed by mechanical depulping, overnight fermentation, and washing to remove mucilage. The coffee is then slowly dried on raised beds covered with shade nets, ensuring even drying and preventing moisture gain. Once dried, the coffee is stored in airtight GrainPro bags before milling and shipping to Norway.
