HARIO: Simplicity Designed in Japan

With a foundation built on quality and a mission to constantly innovate, HARIO is reimagining the concept of V60 pour-overs with a creatively unique take on this classic brewing method.

The Suiren V60 Dripper: Inspired by nature

Taking its name and visual inspiration from the Japanese word for  “Water Lily”, the HARIO Suiren V60-02 Dripper captivates with its artful, dynamic shape and simple functionality.

Instead of a solid cone, the HARIO Suiren’s geometry is formed by twelve transparent “ribs”, also resembling the curved petals of a lily, which attach individually to suspend HARIO V60 02 filters over your coffee server or mug.

This is where the HARIO Suiren achieves its unique customizability; since the ribs can be purchased separately and in a wide range of colours, you have the option of mixing and matching to make the brewer entirely your own!

Another benefit to the HARIO Suiren is airflow. If you’ve ever been to a guided coffee cupping, you’ll remember that oxygen is essential to bringing out the hidden or more nuanced flavours in the cup.

With the HARIO Suiren’s intermittently spaced ribs and reduced surface, the coffee bed is better aerated, leading to improved flavour clarity and extraction with every pour-over!  Are you curious to try for yourself? Brew incredible V60 coffee at home with the HARIO Suiren Dripper using the following pour-over recipe:

What you’ll need:

Brew Ratio:

  • 30g coffee | 500g water

Step 1: Rinse

Place the HARIO Suiren V60 Dripper, the HARIO V60 02 Paper Filter, and coffee server on your digital scale. Then, rinse the paper filter with water (this eliminates any paper residue that can impart unwanted flavours to the coffee!)

Step 2: Dose

Measure out 30g of medium-fine freshly ground coffee into the HARIO Suiren dripper.

Note: it may take a few attempts to find the perfect grind setting for your grinder and preference!

Step 3: Pour

  • 00:00: With your digital scale tared, slowly pour 60g of water (twice the weight of ground coffee) just off the boil onto the coffee bed using a circular motion. This initiates the Bloom Cycle, which is key for releasing CO₂ and achieving an even extraction.
  • 00:30-45:00: After 30-45 seconds, slowly pour in another 240g of water for a cumulative weight of 300g.
  • 2:00-2:15: At around 2 minutes, slowly add a final 200g of water to reach a cumulative weight of 500g. After this last pour, give the V60 a few gentle taps to evenly distribute the coffee bed!

Your total brew time should land around 4 minutes (±15 seconds).

If it’s too fast, try grinding finer.

If it’s too slow, grind coarser.

Reflection: Effortless, Exceptional Coffee

First surprise: The V60-02 filters fit the Suiren’s airy, minimal design beautifully. Despite its open construction, the filter remained secure even with a coffee slurry.

Second surprise: The taste was exceptional, paralleling if not exceeding the quality I’ve come to expect from a carefully prepared pour-over. Wilder Lasso’s tasting notes (white honey, lavender, and honeydew) were vividly expressed thanks to the HARIO Suiren’s airflow.

I also detected floral and fruity notes like butterfly pea flower tea and blueberries!

The takeaway?

V60 brewers don’t need solid walls to make exceptional coffee. The Suiren’s design intuitively enhances extraction and emboldens those subtle flavours that otherwise might go unnoticed.

On top of all its functional benefits, the HARIO Suiren really is a piece of art.

Greet Your Morning with the HARIO Suiren

Also called a “Sleeping Lily”, the flower closes at night and will only bloom in daylight. There really is no better way to rise and shine than to brew a pour-over coffee with the HARIO Suiren Dripper.
