  • Accomplished coffee professional, writer and consultant, Scott Rao, has a brand new book to help improve your coffee roasting knowledge and skills. Coffee Roasting: Best Practices is the culmination of Scott's 25 years of roasting and consulting. It's the most advanced guide ever written about expert-level coffee roasting. There is little overlap with The Coffee Roaster's Companion, which focused on the basics of roasting and different roasting machines. Coffee Roasting: Best Practices focuses solely on advanced techniques to craft and control roast curves, with numerous pages devoted to strategies to avoid "ROR" crashes and flicks, baked coffee, unnecessary roasty-ness, and other roast defects. This book sets the standard for third-wave coffee roasting methodology.

Great read

Nicely written, it’s compact but full of pertinent information. I would recommend for people with minimally a basic understanding of roasting and it’s terminology

Informative.

Been roasting by temp, looks, noise, and smell for over a year. Started roasting on a roaster that tracks the roast and this book has really helped me understand what to look for and what I can do to improve my roasts. Good buy :)

Great book

Good resource if you are new at roasting. It is geared towards drum roasting and arguably more for larger drums but the principle is the same. Glad I picked it up.

Fantastic Roasting Resource

If you are someone that has roasted for a little while and is looking to up your game, this book is amazing. If you haven't I recommend Rao's Coffee Roasting Companion to start, then definitely get this book.

Rao assumes you have some experience roasting and that you are familiar with roasting terminology, which can make its 93 pages a fairly dense tome without prior knowledge. But if you have experience or are willing to wrestle with the terms until you understand, this book is an absolute life saver. It shortcut me to great roasts and saved me a lot of bad batches with some very applicable technical advice.

You can tell Rao has a wealth of knowledge about roasting and he is sharing some real gems in an easy to read and insanely usable resource.

If you want to roast great coffee, please read this book.

Worth the price

Some insightful information delivered in straight forward manner with an interesting look into the 1% of the known coffee roasting universe. Not a definitive "how to" guide but some useful recomendations on procedure, between batch protocals and the like. Would suggest it to anyone looking to improve their roasting.
