Update: Super convenient but flimsy design

*Update* I loved the coffee this would brew and being able to easily brew for one with this. Purchased summer 2020 and before Christmas the funnel had snapped off the tiny welds holding it to the piece that rests on the cup.

*Original Post* This is my first pour over coffee tool. I appreciate the ease of use, cleaning, and that there’s nothing else to it. The coffee tastes great, and it makes having a single cup whenever someone wants, super convenient, very happy with this purchase.

It does make your coffee taste different

With a the same coffee on this stainless steel pourover instead of a paper filter. It does give you more a richer mouth feel. Love this Hario filter.

Filterless Hario

I picked this up to make pourovers when I run out of filters, but I reach for it more and more for its own strengths. Brews up very similar to a v 60 with a paper filter (same grind will get you started, I've only started experimenting). Compared to a brew with a paper filter it has a much richer mouth feel, and more of the sweetness gets kicked up. Clean up is dead simple: put it in the freezer for a few minutes and the grounds pop right out. Its nice to cut out a paper product. No downsides, well unless you are after that super clean clinical finish only a paper filter will do.

Other similar products I've used: v60 with paper filters, aeropress with metal reusable filter.

Fun to use

I bought this filter because I wanted to try pourover coffee but didn't want to generate a lot of paper waste. I've been using this for a couple months and have really been enjoying the coffee that comes from this. The filter is quite easy to use and it's really fun trying different methods to achieve different results. It's quite easy to clean, though some fines can get in between the mesh that will prompt me to do a more thorough cleaning once in a while.

Good coffee but...

Makes good coffee but takes forever to drip. By the time you’re done, the temperature has dropped to luke warm. You also have to make sure your grind is big enough to let water through.

Beautiful but poorly made

Though this is a beautiful filter dripper that made good coffee, it broke within 3 months of normal use. For $53, I was expecting something well-made that would last me for years. The bottom of the cone is welded to its base and the weld broke so it is no longer safe to use. To add to this frustration, Eight Ounce Coffee will not provide a refund or an exchange. Disappointed with the product, Eight Ounce Coffee and Hario.
